Defination of PLC : PLC (Programmable logic controller) এটা এমন একটি Device যাহা মেশিন control এর জন্য প্রয়জনীয় sequtial relay ckt এর পরিবর্তে আবিষ্কৃত হয় । PLC তার input signal এর উপর নির্ভর করে output গুলোকে on কিংবা off এর মাধ্যমে কাজ করে। অন্য ভাবে বলা যায় Programmable logic controller(PLC) হচ্ছে microprocessor basied controller এর special ফর্ম্ ।যা instructions store এর জন্য logical, sequential, timing, counting & arithmetic function implement করে ।
PLC এর ইতিহাস : ১৯৬০ সালের দিকে PLC এর প্রথম পরিচয় হয় । এর প্রথমিক কারন হিসাবে দেখা যায় যে অনেক বেশি খরচ এর complicated relay based machine control system এর পরিবর্তে PLC ডিজাইন করা হয়। “BEDFORD ASSOCIATION” প্রথমে Modular Digital Controller(MODICON)নামে একটি controlling যন্ত্র দিয়ে US car manufacturing company “General Motor corporation” কে automation এর প্রস্তাব দেয় ।এর প্রাথমিক উদ্দেশ্য ছিল বেশি খরচ এর relay based system এর পরিবর্তে , কম খরচের (MODICON) এর এই flexible system এর ব্যাবহার । ১৯৬৮ সালে সর্ব্ প্রথম (MODICON 084) commercial production এ ব্যাবহৃত হয়। সময়ের স্রোতে PLC এর ব্যাবহার দ্রুত বারতে থাকে ।
Programmable Controller Development
1968 :Programmable concept developed
1969 :Hardware CPU controller, with logic instructions, 1 K of memory and 128 I/O points
1974 :Use of several (multi) processors within a PLC – timers and counters;
Arithmetic operations; 12 K of memory operations; 12 K of memory
operations; 12 K of memory and 1024 I/O points
1976 :Remote input/output systems introduced
1977 :Microprocessors – based PLC
1980 :Intelligent I/O modules developed Enhanced communications facilities
Enhanced software features (e.g. documentation) Use of personal
microcomputers as programming aids.
1983 :Low – cost small PLC’s introduced
1985 : Networking of all levels of PLC, computer and machine using SCADA software.

Type’s of PLC: Size এর ওপর ভিত্তি করে PLC কে সাধারনত ৩ ভাগে ভাগ করা যায়
যথাঃ ১। Small size PLC
২। Medium size PLC
৩। Large size PLC
১। Small size PLC : ইহার input/output port সংখ্যা 128 টি এবং এর memory 2 Kbytes পর্যন্ত হয়ে থাকে।
২। Medium size PLC : ইহার input/output port সংখ্যা 2048 টি এবং এর memory 32 Kbytes পর্যন্ত হয়ে থাকে।
৩। Large size PLC : ইহার input/output port সংখ্যা 8192 টি এবং এর memory 750 Kbytes পর্যন্ত হয়ে থাকে।
আজকে এতোটুকুই থাক পরবর্তীতে কোন একসময় কোন এক বিষয় নিয়ে আবার হাজির হব।
